Those who like the Renault 5 but need more space will find a suitable alternative in the new Renault 4 E-Tech – electric, of course. At 4.14 m long, it is 22 cm longer than the R5 and offers significantly more space due to the larger wheelbase, especially in the rear and trunk (375 l).
Two variants are available: 88 kW (120 hp) with a 40 kWh battery and 110 kW (150 hp) with a 52 kWh battery. The smaller battery achieves a good 300 km range but is slow to charge (max. 11 kW AC, 80–100 kW DC). On the positive side: a heat pump and bidirectional charging are standard.
Inside, the cockpit largely corresponds to that of the R5, with seven-inch instruments in the base model and optional ten-inch displays with Android Automotive, Google Navigation, Apple CarPlay & ChatGPT. The "Reno" avatar provides entertainment on long journeys.
Material quality remains a weakness: a lot of hard plastic and mediocre workmanship in some places. The seats are comfortable, and the space in the back is significantly better than in the R5.
In terms of driving dynamics, the R4 with the 150 hp engine is impressive – up to 150 km/h, then it's over. The steering feels too light in Eco mode, more balanced in Sport mode. The chassis is comfortable and stable in bends. New at Renault: One Pedal Driving for comfortable driving.
Conclusion: The Renault 4 E-Tech combines retro design with modern technology – and offers significantly more everyday usability than the R5.
