In the future, charging stations for electric cars and electric trucks on motorways, in parking garages, and logistics centers will require significantly higher performance than before.
In the "MS-Tankstelle" (MV-Charging Station) project, Fraunhofer ISE, together with industrial partners, developed medium-voltage system technology for fast charging stations that enables peak loads of several megawatts.
The use of silicon carbide semiconductors and higher voltage levels reduce material costs and make the system more efficient and flexibly applicable. A demonstrator will be shown at E-World.
The demand for fast charging stations in Germany is rising sharply with the number of e-vehicles, especially on motorways and in urban parking garages.
Future charging stations will require a medium-voltage grid with a rectifier to 1500 volts DC to efficiently deliver the required power and reduce installation costs.
