Kia will soon operate the first pure electric car factory in the Hyundai Group. It produces the EV3 and EV4, two models for the mass market 2
In February, Kia's second production facility in Gwangmyeong, South Korea, will reopen after eight months of paid leave during renovations and begin assembly preparation for future models on January 30.
The Hyundai Motor Group confirmed the reopening without giving any further details. The plant originally produced the Pride and Stonic models for export. After the modernization, the factory is designed to produce the new electric models Kia EV3 and EV4, with an annual capacity of 150,000 units. The models are intended to give a new boost to the mass market, with prices below the EV6.
Industry sources estimate that the EV3 and EV4 will launch in the home country at around 30,000 US dollars (approx. 27,500 euros), which could put Kia in a good position in a challenging market environment. Prices for the European market are expected to start at 35,000 euros. The technical data is currently unknown.
The Kia plant in Gwangmyeong is Hyundai-Kia's first production site to exclusively produce electric cars. Kia CEO Song Ho-sung highlights innovative manufacturing technologies from the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center in Singapore, including automated processes through artificial intelligence and robotics, digital systems, data-based operating systems and environmentally friendly production. Production quality is expected to increase significantly, with 95 percent of products passing the quality inspection process during manufacturing. The focus is on global markets
