The development of used electric car sales in Germany

is currently growing strongly

 

1. Growth: Market is picking up significantly

·       In 2025, the share of used electric cars in all owner changes was only approx. 3.6%, but: + around one third compared to 2025

·       approx. 45,000 vehicles (+6% in 2025)

·       At the beginning of 2026, a clear surge in demand is evident:

·       +39% demand within one month according to AutoScout24

·       Conclusion: The market is growing dynamically, especially since 2025/26.

 

2. Prices: Sharply fallen – now stabilizing

·     Since 2022: Prices have fallen by over 30%

·       recently stabilization or slight increases

·       many lease returns are coming onto the market

·       new models are pushing down prices of older vehicles

 

3. Positive for the used car market:

• rising fuel prices → electric cars more attractive
• more lease returns
• falling new car prices → more buyers can enter the market
• technical advancements (range, charging)

4. Outlook

Everything indicates that the used electric car market will grow strongly in the coming years.
