Up to 6,000 Euros in subsidies for new electric cars
The federal government is planning a new electric car premium to support private individuals in the purchase or leasing of electric vehicles from January 1, 2026. For pure electric cars, subsidies of up to 6,000 euros are possible, while plug-in hybrids and vehicles with range extenders receive lower grants.
The basic subsidy is 3,000 euros for electric cars and 1,500 euros for plug-in hybrids. Households with lower incomes benefit from additional surcharges: up to 2,000 euros extra for low-income earners and up to 1,000 euros as a child bonus. The income limit is 80,000 euros of taxable household income.
A total of three billion euros are available, enough for around 800,000 vehicles. Applications can be submitted via an online portal from May 2026. The program aims to promote climate protection, strengthen the automotive industry, and make e-mobility affordable for more people.
