BYD, China's largest car and e-mobility manufacturer, plans to massively expand its European sales network, aiming for 1000 sales outlets by the end of 2025 – double the current number. This is part of an offensive that includes new dealership locations as well as production plants. According to European head Maria Grazia Davino, BYD wants to remain competitive through closer customer proximity and is relying on a long-term localization strategy.
The group is already active in 29 European markets and will soon open its first plant in Hungary. Further locations are planned in Turkey, and a third is being considered – with Spain as the favorite. Sales in Europe tripled to over 80,000 vehicles in the first nine months of 2025.
BYD aims to secure this growth with the network expansion but recognizes the high effort required for localization in Europe. Whether the strategy will succeed should become clear by the end of 2026.
